Malshej Ghat is an awesome place with peaceful surroundings which keeps bringing the travelers back to this beautiful hill station. This spot is popular among hikers, trekkers, and nature lovers. It has mountain passes in the Western Ghats which are famous for trekking trails, waterfalls, lakes, and historic forts. Traveling from Mumbai takes about 3 hours via road and the distance is around 130 KM. We were on the bike for this road trip and will let you know about our journey in the monsoon season.

Our group’s journey started at Airoli, where we all met and decided on the route how we need to go. It was raining heavily and seeing the situation, at first we all thought to back out and return home. But later we all decided not to back out and continue the journey keeping in mind that the heavy rains will make the road trip more exciting and adventurous. We took the route from Thane to Kalyan to Malshej Ghat as we had to pick up some other friend on the way. Also, there is an alternative route via Ambernath – Badlapur which connects the same road to Malshej Ghat.
Once we left the Kalyan region the roads were all clear, there will be fewer vehicles, and on both the side of the road it will be surrounded by green fields and trees. Now the remaining journey which needs to be covered will take about 1.5 hours. The roads are quite straight with no twists and turns. They are smooth without much potholes in between. When you are about to reach your destination you will be able to the Malshet Ghat which is partially covered by Fog. It had stopped raining by the time we reached the destination so we had managed to click a few photos.
As we continued going up the roads, we started to enter the areas surrounded by fog. The view gets restricted and now we have to slow down and avoid overtaking. You will not be able to see the vehicles coming from the opposite side until they are too close. So please make sure you maintain road discipline. On the way to top, you will find a lot of waterfalls where you can stop and have some fun. Enjoy playing with your friends which will make you relaxed and forget about the work stress.
Once you start feeling hungry you can get on the top where you will find Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation Limited (MTDC). You will find a restaurant named “Flamingo”. As this location is a tourist point and it is the only one famous restaurant available in this location so it is crowded and wait time is also a bit more than expected. But the food quality is good and affordable. Also if you are planning for a stay then you will be able to get accommodation over here.
Before ending, below are a few images that we were able to capture during our journey. Looking at them will make you feel that you need to visit it at least once in your lifetime.
